1 Nightstand
This euphemism for a casual sexual encounter seems strange since rarely is there any standing involved. The mystery is resolved when in the original use of the phrase the word “stand” referred to a stop on a tour, such as that of a theater company. To keep costs down and maximize receipts, promoters often booked just single night performances in small town, which became know as “one night stands” … similar to the same performances to which the phrase commonly refers to today.
